Child & Adolescent Mood Program (CAMP), Atlanta 30306, 404-727-3443, Website The Child and Adolescent Mood Program (CAMP) at Emory University School of Medicine offers a CBT Skills Training Group for Children with Anxiety Disorders. The 16-session skills group is designed primarily for children (ages 8 to 11) with symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Phobia, and Separation Anxiety Disorder. Participants will learn skills to help them solve problems, improve their coping abilities, and recognize and manage their emotions. The program also encourages parental involvement by offering psychoeducational parent group sessions and individual parent consultations. If you know children who may benefit from a structured group CBT approach to anxiety treatment, please refer them to this program.

These groups meet once a week after school for an hour and the groups run for the entire school year. We incorporate art, games, activities, and discussions to develop skills and create positive connections with others in a fun and active environment. There is typically anywhere from 3 to 6 individuals in a group. Specific groups are formed by pairing children/adolescents of similar ages with similar therapeutic goals. We work with children and adolescents with ADHD, Anxiety, Pervasive Development Disorder, High-Functioning Autism, Learning Disabilities, Asperger's Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

Little Kids (5-7), Big Kids (8-12) and Teens (13-17) will meet in age appropriate groups with trained facilitators who gently guide them in lightening their load through stories, activities, games, journaling, and a variety of other expressive modalities. Caregivers will meet separately to discuss the needs of the children.

Teen Sense is a curriculum developed by Shannon Knapp of Horse Sense of the Carolinas. Groups will meet for 90 minutes once weekly, with a choice of either Monday from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm or Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. With the power of horses teens can learn skills to deal with peer pressure and making good choices. Topics include problem-solving, communication, distractions, boundaries, relationships, judgment, and leadership.

This Saturday Social Skills group for ages 8 to 12 using miniature horses is being held at Holbrook Farm in Alpharetta. The 8-week group (90 minutes per session) will focus on the social and emotional needs of children struggling with social awareness and functioning. Topics will include listening, responding, attention, reading body language, group participation, making good choices and respecting boundaries. Miniature horses are a wonderful tool to assist in acquiring these important skills. They are less intimidating than their larger pasture mates, more easily handled and always make you smile. PlayWorks! is a weekly play date for children ages 4-5 designed to help them develop and integrate social skills in a fun and natural way—through P-L-A-Y! The clients in this group work on basic-intermediate social skills related to improving their ability to play with and respond appropriately to similar aged peers. Each play group is a 4 week commitment with opportunity to re-enroll each month. A Parent component is offered after each monthly segment to review progress.

Group members select a relevant teen topic each week ranging from positive choices, goals setting, bullies, friendships, school pressure, boy drama, relationships, beating the blues, family, stress busters, and failures. The group will encourage members to explore current life stressors facing teen girls, build meaningful connections with peers, develop healthy coping skills, and increase self-confidence. The program is designed for high-functioning youths ages 8-17 with normal-to-high IQ and verbal skills, who don’t exhibit aggression or severe hyperactivity, but nonetheless have trouble “fitting in,” making friends, and adjusting their behavior to fit a variety of social situations.

This group teaches females, ages 9-16, how to handle low self-esteem, bullying, shyness, depression, anxiety/stress, and learn to make meaningful connections with other females. This group is great alone or can be used to reinforce individual counseling. This group facilitates healing by allowing young ladies to be supported by a caring group of peers, while learning to end negative emotional cycles and deal with life challenges.
